AWARD WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN HENDERSONS ART & ALL THAT JAZZ

Robert Kawika Sheer brings the spirits of the world to life at inaugural art show

Performance art photographer and award-winning fine artist, Robert Kawika Sheer, has been selected by a panel of jurors for his Spirit Shadows pictures to participate in the inaugural Art & All That Jazz, Henderson’s fine art & music festival, May 7-8, at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District.

“Robert’s artwork is impressive and fascinating,” said Andrea Primo, Director of the Cultural Arts & Tourism Department. “His photographs are exactly the caliber of fine art that we were looking to showcase at the 1st annual Art & All That Jazz.”

Spirit Shadows are one-of-a-kind and never digitally-manipulated fine art. Considered southwest spiritual and contemporary surrealism, Sheer discovered the unique art form, which combines performance art with theatre and photography, over a decade ago. He uses minimal equipment, only a large-format camera, the cover of darkness, a hand-held lighting device, a small amount of moonlight and long, single exposures, to generate these fascinating and illuminating figures.

Sheer has travelled across the globe, bringing the spirits of a number of city and historical landmarks, natural wonders and popular world destinations to life. He has featured the ghost-like silhouettes of Sherlock Holmes in London, gunfighters from the Wild West, angels in Hollywood and golfers at a royal clubhouse in Scotland, as well as spirits of Hawaii, the southwest and Abraham Lincoln.

Through his television appearances, award-winning exhibitions, galleries and art festivals around the world, Sheer’s Spirit Shadows has impressed millions of people. In fact, Sheer has many celebrity collectors including actor, Nicolas Cage; former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger; musician, Graham Nash; author, Ann Rice; and former president, Bill Clinton, among others.

Art & All That Jazz is Henderson’s newest event. It will be held over Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The fine art show will feature a variety of contemporary artists, fine craft, fashion and home décor artisans. In addition, the two-day festival will an assortment of entertainment, interactive activities for children and Piazza Colori, an adaptation of an Italian street painting festival sponsored by the Rotary Club of Green Valley.
