HENDERSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO ADD MUSICAL SOUNDTRACK TO SCREENING OF CHARLIE CHAPLIN'S CITY LIGHTS

American Film Institutes’ #1 romantic comedy celebrates 70th anniversary

Under the direction of Conductor Taras Krysa, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra will perform an updated orchestration of the musical score to Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights, Friday, June 3 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. City Lights, one of Chaplin’s most highly acclaimed films, will be shown in its entirety on a screen above the orchestra. All tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at HendersonLive.com.

“We’re looking forward to transforming the Henderson Pavilion into a giant movie theater,” said Andrea Primo, Director of the Cultural Arts & Tourism Department. “The combination of the classic movie and the talented musicians within the orchestra will create a unique entertainment experience, a first-time offering at the venue.”

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the legendary silent film. As the American Film Institutes’ #1 romantic comedy, City Lights proved to be the hardest and longest undertaking of Chaplin’s career. He not only wrote, directed and starred in the 1931 movie, but also composed the musical score. In the romantic comedy, Chaplin portrays his famous character as he tries to win the affections of a blind girl who thinks her suitor is both handsome and wealthy.

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra is comprised of volunteer musicians of all ages who share a common passion for music. For more than two decades, the group has performed hundreds of shows for thousands of people. Many of the orchestra’s fans have enjoyed these performances, ranging from a varied repertoire of classical pieces by renowned composers like Beethoven, Mahler and Chopin to songs featured in popular movies and patriotic anthems. This fall, the orchestra will begin its 25th season, offering several concerts at the Henderson Pavilion.
