HENDERSON RESIDENT TO STAR AS DOROTHY IN THE WIZARD OF OZ

Green Valley High School graduate also performed lead roles in
Disney’s High School Musical 2 and Beauty & the Beast

(Henderson, NV) – Henderson resident, Carly Richardson, has been cast to portray one of America’s most iconic movie roles, Dorothy Gale, in the upcoming May production of The Wizard of Oz at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Richardson auditioned for the part, edging out 30 other Dorothy hopefuls for the chance to wear the ruby red slippers.

“We knew the moment Carly finished her audition that she was the one for the part,” said Dan Decker, Director of Oz and the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company. “She conveys a genuine innocence and sweetness that’s appropriate for the Dorothy character. Her natural vocal range is perfect for the score and her acting talent instincts are perfect for the part.”

“I’m excited to explore and develop the role of Dorothy, again,” said Richardson. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to play such a legendary role.”

This is the second time Richardson, a 2008 graduate of Green Valley High School, has played the leading lady in The Wizard of Oz. As a freshman at Southern Utah University, she was cast as the wholesome girl in pigtails by Peter Sham, the creator of Lend Me A Tenor: The Musical, a new comedy hit currently featured in London.

While attending Green Valley High School, Richardson was actively involved in the theater program. As a senior, Richardson was cast as Gabriella in High School Musical 2: On Stage. The school was one of four theater groups selected by Musical Theatre International and Disney Theatricals to present the show. This was a second time for the school, as well as Richardson, to perform as a pilot program for a future Disney musical. In 2006, Green Valley was one of six schools chosen to perform the world premiere of the original High School Musical.

In addition, Richardson performed in several other productions throughout her high school career including Oklahoma! and Disney’s Beauty & the Beast, where she won an award for her portrayal of Belle. She also sang with the Green Valley’s Madrigals choir, a Grammy Award-winning ensemble, as well as founded the a cappella group, Green NV.

Fans will have the chance to see Richardson as Dorothy along with Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, live, on-stage as the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company present multiple performances, May 13-14 at 8 p.m., May 15 at 4 p.m., May 21 at 8 p.m. and May 22 at 4 p.m., at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Tickets are only $10.
