CITY OF HENDERSON PRESENTS ANNUAL DESTINATION CHAMPION AWARD

Aston MonteLago Village Resort Director of Sales & Marketing, Larry Peterson,
honored for tourism efforts

The City of Henderson recognizes Larry Peterson, Director of Sales and Marketing for Aston MonteLago Village Resort, with the annual Destination Champion Award during this year’s National Tourism Week, a salute to travel and tourism in America, May 7-15. Peterson will also be honored at the City Council meeting on June 14 at 7 p.m. located at Henderson City Hall, 240 South Water Street. The public is invited to attend.

The Destination Champion Award was created to encourage excellence in Henderson’s hospitality industry. The purpose of the award is to honor hotel sales representatives that have enhanced awareness of the city, contribute and support the community and promote Henderson as a first-class destination for visitors. Individual tourism partners are acknowledged annually during National Tourism Week.

“We are proud to honor Larry as the third annual recipient of the Destination Champion Award,” said Mark Calhoun, Henderson City Manager. “Henderson, Nevada, is a premiere location for the meetings market and travel industry.  Larry’s dedication and innovation are evident through the continuous business he brings here to the Aston MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas.”

Peterson has directed the sales department at Aston MonteLago Village Resort for the past five years and is responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing for the 350-unit condo-hotel property that includes studio, one and two-bedroom accommodations. His dedication to customer service and enhancing the overall meeting experience has lead to his great relationships with various association and corporate groups including the Society of Human Ecology, Abbott Nutrition, Alergan, Covidian, Hankook Tire, among others. The resort fills an average of over 40,000 room nights per year.

Most recently, Peterson has played an instrumental role in bringing NAMBA (North American Model Boat Association) to Henderson and Lake Las Vegas with 100 participants for the group’s first event in mid-May 2011, in hopes of a return in the fall for the NAMBA’s World Championships. He is also focusing on bringing world championship caliber events for both wakeboarding and wakesurfing to Lake Las Vegas in 2012.

Additionally, Peterson’s innovation is apparent through his utilization of partnerships with the MonteLago Village to create special event packages for his clients, offering the complete meeting and entertainment experience. One such example is his involvement in creating an event in October 2010, celebrating the 70th birthday of John Lennon that included a performance by John Lennon’s original band, The Quarrymen, and a sneak-preview of the movie, Nowhere Boy, chronicling Lennon’s early years.

Peterson is a member of the Lake Las Vegas Destination Marketing Council, which is comprised of major stakeholders in the Lake Las Vegas area. The council promotes the destination and events throughout the year.  He is also a member of Meeting Professionals International and the Las Vegas Hospitality Association.
