ARTBEAT PRESENTED BY TARGET TO FEATURE MUSIC FROM MAYBERRY

The Grascals to pay tribute to The Andy Griffith Show with new album & concert

Grammy-nominated bluegrass band, The Grascals, will perform at ArtBeat presented by Target, Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District, just days after releasing their latest album, Dance ‘til Your Stockings Are Hot and Ravelin’, a musical tribute to The Andy Griffith Show. Henderson will be the first West Coast city on The Grascals’ international tour to enjoy the debut of the new songs. Admission is complimentary.

As devoted fans to The Andy Griffith Show, The Grascals will release Dance on Tuesday, June 7, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the classic television program. The album will feature a seven-song collection of tunes inspired by treasured and unforgettably hilarious scenes from the show’s eight-year run. Fans will appreciate legendary tracks such as “Mayberry’s Finest Theme,” “Boil Them Cabbage Down,” “Dooley” and “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms,” as well as a Grascal original, “Boy, Giraffes Are Selfish,” a play on words from one of the program’s episodes.

Set in the quaint town of Mayberry, North Carolina, the sitcom followed the life of Andy Taylor, a widower who must find a balance between his responsibilities as a father and his duties as a sheriff. With nearly no crimes to solve, Sheriff Andy passes the time raising his young son, Opie, listening to the advice of his Aunt Bee, a respected woman and surrogate mother to both, father and child, and getting his overconfident and goofy cousin, Deputy Barney Fife, out of a string of misadventures.

The Andy Griffith Show quickly became a huge hit amongst millions of viewers and helped shape the American pop culture in the ‘60s. In its eight years, the series remained in the top 10 in Neilson ratings, even reaching #1 for its final season. In addition, the cast garnered six Emmy Awards. Now showing in reruns, The Andy Griffith Show is one of the “50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time,” according to TV Guide. Also, Bravo added Andy Taylor to their list of “100 Greatest TV Characters.”
