Event supports fundraiser for high school’s student organizations & athletic programs
For the second consecutive year, the City of Henderson will host its Independence Day Celebration at the Basic High School football field, 400 N. Palo Verde Drive, Monday, July 4 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The event will feature live entertainment and an 18-minute fireworks show by Lantis, which begins at 9 p.m. Admission is complimentary.
In exchange for utilizing the school’s stadium, the City of Henderson created a unique alternative for generating revenue for several of Basic’s student clubs, organizations and sports teams. During the holiday’s festivities, groups such as the Marine Corps JROTC, student council and volleyball squads will be selling a variety of concessions from hot dogs to hamburgers and ice cream. All proceeds will benefit each individual program to assist with funding extra-curricular activities, tournament fees and new equipment.
“We’re very appreciative for Basic’s generous contribution,” said Mark Calhoun, Henderson City Manager. “They have been a tremendous partner in helping to provide this event to our community. We hope their students find great success fundraising for their programs.”
For some, this is the second time they have sponsored a fundraiser at Henderson’s Fourth of July event. Last year, monies generated helped partially finance a mixture of functions including the JROTC’s fitness troop competitions in New Mexico, Arizona and California, as well as other needs for their drill squad.
In addition, families will also enjoy concerts by The Randy Anderson Band, the “Best Local Country Band” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s reader’s poll, and classic rock tribute band The Downstrokes. No strangers to Henderson events, both groups will perform songs that honor America, patriotism and Old Glory.
Complimentary shuttle service will be provided from Morrell Park and Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris Street; Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 Racetrack Road; and a church parking lot, 1002 Burkholder Boulevard, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Only handicap parking will be available at Basic High School.
Glass containers, fireworks, barbeques, alcohol, weapons and pets are prohibited.
