Henderson residents able to watch featured production at multiple locations & days in October
The City of Henderson welcomes the return of Shakespeare in the Park with its four-park, four-Saturday travelling tour in October. Once again, residents will have the chance to see this year’s featured play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performed by the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company in a neighborhood near them.
Last year marked the debut of the extended performance calendar, a new concept that had never been done before in the history of the event. The goal was to make Henderson’s performing arts and culture programming more accessible to the community.
In the past, locals were limited to one weekend of performances. By adding dates and locations to the beloved series in 2010, residents had the opportunity to choose between four different dates to see their favorite Shakespearean production, live, on-stage.
The new format was a huge achievement, receiving praises by not only Henderson natives, but thespians and devote fans of the legendary bard. Many took advantage of this unique offer, some attending multiple showings over the four-Saturday run. In fact, nearly 13,000 people enjoyed the performances, which were hosted in such communities as Green Valley, Lake Las Vegas, Anthem and Seven Hills.
“Our residents were overjoyed last year with the addition of performance dates and locations,” said Mark Calhoun, Henderson City Manager. “With its success, we felt it was necessary to maintain and build on this new tradition for this fall’s Shakespeare series. Premier arts and cultural opportunities such as this enhance our vibrant community and the quality of life for our residents.”
This year, Shakespeare in the Park begins Saturday, October 1 at Sonata Park, 1550 Seven Hills Drive, with the remaining shows scheduled for Saturday, October 8 at Discovery Park, 2011 Paseo Verde Parkway; Saturday, October 15 at Lake Las Vegas, 15 Costa Di Lago; and concluding at River Mountain Park, 1941 Appaloosa Drive, on Saturday, October 22. All performances will be at 7 p.m. Admission is complimentary.
