Second year for Basic High School to host Fourth of July festivities
The City of Henderson hosted the ultimate birthday extravaganza, yesterday, Monday, July 4, with more than 25,000 attending the annual Independence Day Celebration at Basic High School’s football field, 400 N. Palo Verde Drive, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. This year marked the second anniversary for the school to host the holiday’s festivities.
The complimentary event featured concerts by local favorites The Randy Anderson Band, who had the crowd line dancing for hours to popular country music tunes, and The Downstrokes with their tribute to classic rock. Families also enjoyed a taste of Americana with a variety of concessions with proceeds from sales benefitting several Basic High School student organizations and sports programs.
In addition, Councilwoman Debra March made a special guest appearance. After welcoming guests, she led the crowd in a huge countdown to kick off the evening’s grand finale and at the stroke of 9 p.m. a spectacular fireworks show lit the night’s sky in a salute to America. People of all ages were dazzled for nearly 20 minutes with a brilliantly choreographed display by Lantis Fireworks, which included booming rockets, streaming comets and sparkling cascades of color.
