NEW RACE START LOCATION FOR NEVADA SILVERMAN TRIATHLON & 2011 ITU LONG COURSE TRIATHLON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNOUNCED

Organizers partner with Loews Lake Las Vegas for host hotel

The City of Henderson and Nevada Silverman race directors, Frank and Meghann Lowery of Lowery’s Multisport Races, announced Lake Las Vegas will replace Lake Mead National Recreation Park as the new start location for the 2010 Nevada Silverman Triathlon. Additionally, race organizer’s partnered with Loews Lake Las Vegas, securing the resort as the official host hotel for the event.

“We put an enormous amount of thought and consideration of our athletes, volunteers and spectators in the decision to move,” said Frank Lowery, Race Director of the Nevada Silverman Triathlon. “The new venue brings the commute from the start of the race to the finish line and expo area 10 miles closer. We will also have a true host hotel, Loews Lake Las Vegas, which will be within walking distance of the start. Athletes can truly get out of bed and walk to the race start, this is something that we have never been able to offer in the past and will be incredibly convenient for our athletes. We are very excited for the future of the Silverman and the excitement that the new venue will inevitably bring.”

Changing the race start to Lake Las Vegas is a natural progression for the rapidly expanding and popular triathlon. Over the past five years, the Nevada Silverman has evolved from a homegrown race with 300 participants, to a world-class sporting event with more than 1,200 participants from across the country and the world expected to register in 2010.

The start location change also heralds an exciting new era for the Nevada Silverman Triathlon and its hosts, the City of Henderson and Lowery’s Multisport Races. Most recently, race organizers and the City were awarded the prestigious honor to host the 2011 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Henderson, which will be held on the Nevada Silverman course. The move to Lake Las Vegas will add a variety of amenities and convenience to athletes who will be travelling to Henderson from across the world to attend the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships.

“Lake Las Vegas provides the perfect start for one of Henderson’s most prestigious city-wide events, Nevada Silverman,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “Additionally, Loews Lake Las Vegas’ selection as host hotel for the event, allows Silverman participants and Destination Henderson visitors a chance to experience the vibrant community of Lake Las Vegas, complete with deluxe accommodations, shopping, dining and outdoor adventure.”

As a result of this move, adjustments to the Silverman race route will be made. The swim course will change completely, while the bike will only be slightly altered and the run will remain exactly the same. Holding true to its reputation as the toughest course in North America, Lowery and his team, are promising the new course will not be easier.
