HO'OLAULE'A FESTIVAL BRINGS ISLAND LIFE TO HENDERSON

Annual event showcases aloha spirit with traditional music, dance, food & more!

Prince Kuhio Ho’olaule’a Festival, one of Southern Nevada’s largest Hawaiian and Pacific Islander celebrations, returns to Henderson, Saturday, September 10-Sunday, September 11 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., daily, at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District. The event will showcase a fusion of island culture, music, food and more. Admission is complimentary.

“Our strength is creating unique cultural opportunities for our citizens that are accessible and engaging,” said Mark Calhoun, Henderson City Manager. “Ho’olaule’a is a great example. By creating a tropical paradise in the mainland, residents have the opportunity to experience the joys of the island culture close to home.”

Now in its 21st year, Ho’olaule’a has grown into a monumental occasion for the island community in Southern Nevada. In fact, more than 40,000 residents, as well as their friends and family visiting from other states and countries including the Philippines and Tahiti, come to the event, which has been a partnership with the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club and Henderson since its move to the city in 2007, to experience the sights, sounds and smells of home.

Guests will enjoy a variety of top island entertainment such as the festival’s headliner Holunape, an award-winning trio known for amazing audiences with their traditional and contemporary Hawaiian tunes. In addition, Ho’olaule’a will incorporate a local flair, featuring groups performing passionate Polynesian routines, Hawaiian hula dancing and Japanese drumming demonstrations. Other highlights of the event include a mixture of ‘ono (delicious) delicacies, Healthy Living Pavilion and Na Mea Village, where natives and islanders-at-heart will have a chance to learn how to make crafts such as a haku lei, ribbon leis, kukui nut keychains, lei hulu and kapa stamping.

Ho’olaule’a not only serves the community with a unique island adventure on the mainland, but it also is one of the principal fundraisers for the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend’s festivities will help sponsor the organization’s Founder Scholarship, an assistance program for college-bound Hawaiians. To date, the association has awarded over $55,000 to youths seeking a higher education.
