PEACE FROG LEAPS INTO HENDERSON WITH TRIBUTE TO THE DOORS

ArtBeat concert celebrates life & music of rocker Jim Morrison, 40 years after his passing

Peace Frog, a tribute to The Doors, will perform in Henderson, Friday, September 16 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District, opening the fall season of the city’s signature series, ArtBeat presented by Target. The special concert, which comes 40 years following the loss of The Doors’ legendary lead vocalist Jim Morrison, will feature classic songs forever etched in rock history including chart-topping hits like “Hello, I Love You” and “Light My Fire,” as well as fan favorites like  “L.A. Woman,” “Riders on the Storm” and “The End.” Admission is complimentary.

Based out of Venice Beach, California, the birthplace of The Doors, Peace Frog stars Tony Fernandez as Morrison. Backed by a talented group of musicians, Fernandez intensifies the persona of the “Lizard King” by recreating his mysterious presence, mimicking his on-stage charisma, mastering his mannerisms and nailing the illustrious vocals. Topped by an anthology of music by the award-winning group and Fernandez epitomizing the famed lead singer nicknamed “Mr. Mojo Risen,” Peace Frog delivers a notorious, highly-acclaimed musical drama reminiscent of an original Doors show.

Although The Doors saw great success early on, it wasn’t until later, years after Morrison’s death in 1971, the band’s popularity catapulted, receiving several prestigious honors and accolades. The Doors, not only had two #1 monster hits, but were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold and platinum albums, as well as sold over 100 million albums worldwide and were inducted into, both, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002. In addition, VH1 ranked them near the top of the echelon of their lists including 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artists, 100 Greatest Rock Songs with “Light My Fire” and Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Doors #41 on its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time review. Just this year, they received a Grammy Award for the film, When You’re Strange, a 2009 documentary of the band.

Wanting to celebrate the music of his heroes, The Doors, Fernandez founded Peace Frog 14 years ago. A 20-year veteran of the music industry, Fernandez and his all-star band have shared the stage with Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, the remaining members of The Doors. They have also travelled the globe, bringing this spectacular tribute to devoted fans in such countries as Tahiti, Finland, Australia and Japan, stateside in New York, California, Minnesota and locally at such resorts as the Venetian, Caesars Palace and Monte Carlo.
