Darlene Koldenhoven, the beloved tambourine-waving choir nun in both Sister Act films, will showcase her vocal talents with an intimate concert at the Henderson Events Plaza, located at 200 S. Water Street, on Saturday, October 25 at 8 p.m. Admission and parking is free.
“Darlene’s vocal capabilities are both impressive and mesmerizing,” said Andrea Primo, Director of the Cultural Arts & Tourism Department, “Her angelic and expressive lyrics accompanied by a soul-stirring performance will entertain audiences of all ages.”
The Grammy Award winner and three-time nominee is a classically trained singer whose five-octave range has been showcased on several television specials, movies and albums. She was featured on PBS as the memorable solo vocalist in Yanni Live at the Acropolis, which garnered over 1.5 billion viewers worldwide. Additionally, Koldenhoven served as a vocal coach/musical director for both Sister Act films as well as performed as one of the singing nuns in the movies.
Her latest endeavor includes releasing her fourth album, Infinite Voice, which blends several popular genres of music into original compositions. It has earned several accolades including #1 Album on the New Age Radio Charts and voted by broadcasters as “Best Vocal Album” for the 2007 Lifestyle Music Awards.
Koldenhoven’s voice has graced a multitude of albums from musical giants like Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, jazz legend Ramsey Lewis and classic rock icons Pink Floyd. Most recently, she has lent her voice to the soundtrack of the 2007 film Freedom Writers starring Hilary Swank.
