Juilliard-trained pianist takes unique approach to classical music
with workshops at Basic High School, the Academy and more
World-class pianist Alpin Hong will return to Henderson for a fourth appearance, visiting with local students at Basic High School, the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing & Visual Arts, Nevada School of the Arts and the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra, as part of an extended musical residency program, beginning next week, Wednesday, October 19 Sunday, October 30.
As seen on ABC World News Now, the Juilliard-trained musician, who has also conducted this performance series at Basic and Green Valley High School in past years, will take a fun approach to the workshops, creating an atmosphere of excitement with an energetic curriculum thats more interactive and engaging to all ages. With his charismatic personality, Hong will infuse his passion for classical music into an ultimate educational experience with stimulating lessons, from the fundamentals to teaching students how this genre has become the building blocks for todays popular tunes in movies, video games and television.

At the end of the two weeks, Hong will perform a benefit concert for the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra for their annual fundraiser gala, Saturday, October 29 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, entitled Heroes & Villains, Might & Magic: A Musical Battle Royale for the Future. Tickets are $9.
The concert, which includes special appearances by the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra, will feature timeless compositions by classical composers like Mendelssohn and Bach, as well as modern tunes by such musicians as Guaraldi, of the Peanuts comic strip fame. The grand finale will be epic, showcasing favorite video game soundtracks, including Super Mario Brothers, The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy, and a few familiar television and movie themes.
