CITY OF HENDERSON ADDS MORE FREE ACTIVITIES TO WINTERFEST EVENT

Families to enjoy wagon rides, The Nutcracker, light displays and more

The City of Henderson continues to enhance the annual WinterFest celebration year after year. Families will enjoy additional free activities including wagon rides; productions of The Nutcracker; the Henderson Festival of Trees; elaborate light displays; and a tree lot. WinterFest will be held December 10-12 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. Admission is FREE.

Wagon rides will travel down Water Street on Friday, December 11 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday, December 12 from 11:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Water Street, between Basic Road and Atlantic Avenue, will be closed during this activity.

Additionally, The Nutcracker, presented by the Insurgo Theatre Movement, puts a new modern twist on this holiday classic play. Awarded the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Best Performing Arts Group of 2009, this ensemble features members of Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group. The Nutcracker will be performed on Friday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Families will also enjoy the Henderson Festival of Trees. Local civic clubs were invited to decorate trees with traditional ornaments and trimmings from a specific world culture. Some cultures that will be represented include the Irish, the Filipinos and Hawaiians. The trees will be displayed for the duration of WinterFest and, afterwards, will be donated to local families in need.

The Water Street District, between Basic Road and Atlantic Avenue, will be illuminated with thousands of lights. Several large displays including Santa’s limousine, dancing Elvis and snowmen are located on the Henderson Events Plaza, Henderson Convention Center lawn, Justice Facility parking garage and in front of the James I. Gibson Library.

Attendees will have the opportunity to shop for a Christmas tree or holiday wreath at WinterFest. Stu Miller Christmas Trees will have a lot located at the Henderson Events Plaza. Rates are competitive and the tree lot “will match any price.”

WinterFest is the City’s annual holiday celebration. It features three days of free family-friendly activities including a performance by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra on December 10, as well as a parade, visits with Santa Claus, ice skating, train rides, snow play, pony rides and live entertainment from December 11-12.
